We saw Dave Matthews and Kenny Chesney together last year when Dave Matthews made a rather surprise appearance at a Kenny Chesney concert in Atlanta on September 7, 2007. Now Kenny Chesney's upcoming album “Lucky Old Sun” features a collaboration with Dave Matthews on the tune "I'm Alive," This song appears as the first track on the album.

Kenny Chesney was also added to the line up at Farm Aid along joining Farm Aid board members and perennial performers Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews for the annual benefit concert, which took place Sept. 20 in Mansfield, MA.

The first edition of “Lucky Old Sun” will be a deluxe package, including live versions of various Chesney songs. The deluxe edition, available Oct. 14, will give fans access to downloads from Chesney's Poets & Pirates Tour and a special video of "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven," featuring The Wailers. They will also have the opportunity to enter the "Kick It Off With Kenny" contest to win a trip to the opening of Chesney's 2009 tour. The music-only version of “Lucky Old Sun” will be released in stores on October 21.

"Lucky Old Sun is a really personal record," said Chesney. "It comes from some pretty deep places, and it looks at my life, how I've evolved and the way the ocean can take you places beyond location."

DMB Show with No Saxophone: 08.05.2008

Posted on by dbtp

Last night at the Riverbend Music Center, Dave Matthews Band continued to provide more surprises and excitement to an already remarkable 2008 Summer Tour. This tour has had it's share of highs and lows, but DMB always makes "The Best of What's Around".

With an unfortunate ATV accident  on June 30th, 2008 that left Leroi Moore injured and unable to continue on with the tour, DMB called on Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for Bela Fleck and The Flecktones. While DMB and fans alike are wishing for Leroi's speedy recovery, Jeff has been a pro stepping in for Leroi providing his unique style to the DMB sound.

Jeff is filling in for the remainder of the 2008 tour, however he did have a previous commitment to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones last night in Philadelphia, PA. This left the Dave Matthews Band with no replacement to fill Leroi or Jeff's shoes with the Saxophone. This marks only the second time ever in DMB's history that they have played a show with out a Sax. The only other time is when Leroi had to miss a show due to an illness in his family back almost 14 years ago on 10.16.94.

The show was not completely without horns. Rashawn Ross was onstage with the trumpet, but even with the lack of the sax during the Cincinnati show, DMB did not shy away from heavy hitters like, "Crush" and "#41". "The Idea of You" was played for the first time in a month, along many other standards that have been played throughout the 2008 tour.

"If your Lucky" Dave mumbled, responding to the numerous chants for "Halloween" throughout the start of the show. DMB later gave into the crowd and played an impromptu version of  "Halloween", but not before a fake out of "Everyday" which would later be played in full. Read the Road Crew Notes. "Halloween" has not been played as frequent as it used to be in earlier years. The last time it was played was in Las Vegas, 03.24.07.

DMB topped of what might be one of the most unique shows of the tour with a strong performance of "Two Step", with an extended solo by Carter Beauford.

With ongoing speculation of how a DMB show would sound with no saxophone, while not their ideal scenario, the show must go on and they did not disappoint.

The tour continues on August 7th in Virginia Beach. Jeff Coffin will return to join the band for the remainder of the tour. Send good thoughts and well wishes to Leroi.

Dave Matthews Band to Play Pepsi Music Festival, Buenos Aires Argentina

Posted on by dbtp

July 13th, 2008

Since 2005, the start of spring in Argentina brings with it much more than a change of seasons. As the sun warms and bids goodbye to the South American winter, music begins to fill the air. This year will be no exception. This September will celebrate the fourth annual Pepsi Music Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This music marathon is Argentina’s largest and longest music festival. In the past, this festival has lasted up to 11 days with more than 200,000 in attendance. Past performers have included many bands from around the world including Marilyn Manson, Black Eyed Peas, The Wailers, and many more.

This year, the Pepsi Music Festival scheduled for October 3rd, 2008, and has over 160 bands participating. At this time, the festival plans are to have a grand opening night and 4 “thematic” nights.  Confirmed for opening night Saturday, September 13th are The Hives in the Pepsi Music Stadium and presumably Dave Matthews Band. International Night currently includes KISS.  Calamaro Night will feature Argentinean musician, composer and icon, Andrés Calamaro.  Other nights include National Night and Reggae Night.

Among those confirmed for the 2008 festival are Dave Matthews Band, Kymani Marley (son of Bob Marley), Andres Calamaro, and KISS, It is rumored that some of the international artists who will also be present are The Offspring, Black Eyed Peas and Simple Plan.

This year for the first time, music lovers can participate in the formation of this mega event.  Through different interactive modules and voting games, users can influence the order the artists perform on different nights. Prizes will be given for those whose proposal approaches the final line up.  Independent, unsigned bands are also given the opportunity to compete to perform during the festival. Fans and band upload music and videos for fans to vote on.  There is also a contest to submit lyrics to a song.  Winning lyrics will be set to music and recorded by the Argentinean band, Los Tipitos.  Users may also upload a karaoke video that others vote on. The singer with the most votes wins a free trip and free tickets to the festival.

Indications are that Pepsico plans to webcast this event.

New song from 2004...Sugar Will...Returns in 2008

Posted on by dbtp

July 10th, 2008

Sugar Will, one of 5 new songs to debut in 2004, makes it's long overdue return, last night in Tampa, FL. Sugar Will was played heavily during the 2004 summer tour and then never heard from again, aside from 2 very brief teases in 07.

Of all the new 2004 songs, Crazy Easy is now the only song that remains unplayed since that tour. Good Good Time has yet to be played again in a full band setting, but was played during the Dave & Friends cruise in 2006.

The 2008 Summer tour has been full of random song debuts, covers, and even with unfortunate departures by fellow band members, DMB show no signs of slowing down.

It should come as no surprise to fans that DMB will play what they want, when they want. Even if it takes years, you can never really count any song out. #34 is a perfect example of this. "The Long Black Veil" and "The Space Between" are among other songs to see some play after quite some time.

Some may recall the survey that Stefan held on his website IZStyle.com last year, asking fans what songs they would like to hear again. Sugar Will was among many songs on that list, however "Sweet Up and Down" was the song to make the huge comeback in 2007.

Sugar Will has added to the excitement of an already unique tour. Time will tell what else DMB has in store for the remainder of the 2008.

Jeff Coffin to finish out the tour with Dave Matthews Band

Posted on by dbtp

July 8th, 2008

jeffcoffin.jpg

jeffcoffin.jpg

According to Jeff Coffin's official website, he will be filling in for LeRoi Moore for the remainder of the Summer Tour.

Leroi Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident and is currently reported to be in fair condition and is going to make a full recovery. In a recent article by "The Hook", DMB publicist Ambrosia Healy reports that Leroi remains in the hospital and will be posting updated information about LeRoi's condition on dmband.com, when there is news to report.

Jeff will be with Bela Fleck and The Flecktones for two shows on August 5th & 6th. DMB does have a show in Cincinnati on the 5th and there is currently no word if there will be someone to fill in for Jeff at that show or no one at all. This is currently the only conflict that Jeff has with the remainder of DMB's Summer Tour.

While LeRoi's presence on stage is clearly missed by both the band and the fans, Jeff has stepped up in Roi place. Both Stefan and Rashawn posted blogs about Leroi absence from the stage.

You can find audio highlights from all the 2008 shows on our forum.

To send an email/ecard directly to LeRoi at the UVA hospital, please click here.  Mail may also be sent to LeRoi at the following address:  Post Office Box 1467, Charlottesville, VA  22902 or to fanmail@davematthewsband.com.

Official Announcement from Jeff Coffin's website

Jeff w/Dave Matthews Band:

Jeff will be on tour until the end of the 2008 touring season with Dave Matthews Band. Jeff is subbing for LeRoi Moore, who was involved in a bad ATV accident, and will be with the band for the remainder of the 2008 touring year. Thankfully, LeRoi is expected to make a full recovery. Please visit www.DMBand.com for more info and please keep LeRoi in your thoughts and prayers. Jeff WILL be with the Flecktones on August 5th & 6th when they open for Chick Corea's "Return to Forever" in Philly and Boston.

Stefan Lessard's Interview with Cali - coming soon...World Tour

Posted on by dbtp

June 28th, 2008

Cali of Mix 98.5 interviewed Stefan Lessard on June 24th, 2008 prior to their show in Mansfield, MA. Cali (a long time DMB fan) has interviewed Stefan and other band member numerous times over the years.

Stefan discussed the following topics:

  • Yukon Kornelius
  • Playing Cover songs
  • The impact of Tim Reynolds on tour
  • Reason for Butch Taylor not touring with DMB
  • Progress of "New Songs" and the overall completion of the upcoming studio album
  • Back in the Studio in October
  • Touring South America in the fall and a possible future World Tour
  • Explanation of the fire at Stefan's house
  • IZStyle.com

The most notable items discussed was the fact that the "new songs" are almost finished, but not quite ready to be played live. Stefan also mentions going back in the studio in October to continue with the completion of the new studio album.

Also noted was that fact that DMB will be playing in South America in the fall. There has been no official word by DMB's  management, so it seems Stefan beat them to the punch. He also explain the bands overall ambition to follow with a possible world tour next year. time will tell.
