Dave Matthews Named as Vote for Change Co-Chair
May 15,2008
Vote For Change is a program to get-out-the-vote in the general election and is part of a 50-state voter registration drive. Senator Barack Obama has announced the national co-chairs of Vote for Change. The fourteen co-chairs are government leaders, leaders in the labor movement, leaders in the arts, and in the faith community. Their job is to oversee the program’s efforts and act as campaign representatives to boost participation in the election across the country.
Among the 14 National Co-Chairs is Dave Matthews. Early this year, in a letter addressed to his fans, Dave Matthews announced his endorsement of Barack Obama. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds performed a free concert at Indiana University promoting Obama's campaign. Over 17,000 students attended this concert.
These current political activities are not Dave Matthews' first public participation in politics. Dave Matthews Band played during the 2004 "Vote for Change" tour and in support of Sen. John Kerry with other artists including R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen. In January of 1997, Dave Matthews Band also played at President Bill Clinton's Inaugural Ball.
