Dave Matthews Band on the Cover of Billboard Magazine

Dave Matthews Band is featured on the cover of the newest Billboard Magazine. The article includes an interview with Dave as he discusses the new album "Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King".

In the interview portion of the article Dave discusses his time in the studio with the band as they worked through the tough loss of LeRoi Moore, but worked hard to include him as much as possible on the album. LeRoi Moore is the first melody heard as the album begins. This "LeRoi intro" has been previously revealed with a promo video that DMB released a few weeks ago. Dave goes on about the excitement that LeRoi had going into recording, working to make the best record they could do. Dave recalls LeRoi saying, "We should be better in the studio than we are live."

Billboard also includes and 1 minute 54 second video previewing Big Whiskey. On the video you will hear the beginning of "Shake Me Like a Monkey" and a portion of the upcoming single from the album, "Funny The Way It Is". Dave, Carter, Boyd and Stefan talk about the new album and LeRoi Moore.

In the written interview, Dave Matthews describes the new album as "optimistic" and having the overall theme of life, death and searching in the lyrics. He talks about the song "Dive In" as very dark and about the end of the world and "Space Man" being a love song.

Rhyme with Reason
This week in the Florida Keys, a sick sea turtle swam to the entrance of the only hospital in the world that is solely licensed to treat sea turtles. After giving the turtle some space, staff members treated him for a bacterial infection, and will continue to monitor him until he is well enough to be re-released into the ocean. To some this may seem like a happy coincidence, but to those of us who believe that everything happens for a reason, this is just another example of the magic of the Universe. Granted, many readers might dismiss this logic as too happy-go-lucky, especially when so many of our hopes and dreams don't actually pan out. But that's where serendipity steps in. Instead of getting what we hoped for, we end up with what is truly meant to be.

Whether this paradigm suits you or not, there's no denying that The Dave Matthews Band is where they are meant to be.

Don't Burn The Day
Yesterday, a goat appeared in my backyard. For some of you country folk this may not seem like a big deal, but for me, my husband, and my two cats, it was as if JFK rose from the dead. I think it was the way that the goat appeared out of nowhere, baaahhhing loudly down the stone steps that lead to our backyard, followed closely by a frantic neighbor, that made such an impact. Before the goat emerged the only sounds to be heard were the wind rustling through the trees and an occasional peck from our resident woodpecker, Red. And just as quickly and surprisingly as the goat materialized, he was gone, with the frantic neighbor still in tow. Call it obsession, delirium, or just being a hugely devoted fan, but this fleeting encounter actually reminded me of the Dave Matthews Band.

DBTP Flashback: Dave Matthews at The Prism Coffeehouse

Charlotesville, VA, the birthplace of Dave Matthews Band and common stay for the band at venues like the Floodzone and the legendary Trax nightclub through the early 90's. This was just the beginning for the former bartender.

The Prism Coffeehouse was another historic landmark in Dave Matthews' journey to stardom and sold out stadiums. Through the Prism's 40 years, Dave graced the stage a handful of times, yet never with the band, he delivered some memorable performances.

The Prism was founded by a group of UVa. students in 1966. Up until the mid-70's, the Prism remained a popular venue for local and regional folk performers, many long-forgotten, but Joan Baez once stopped in to introduce her friend Bob Dylan. In 1972 a rising young singer and guitarist from Washington D.C. named Emmylou Harris played at the Prism for the typical .75¢ cover.
