The Write to Heal Contest!

UPDATE 09/30/12: This contest is now over. Thank you to all who entered!

August 19th marked the anniversary of an enormous loss. That was the day the world lost one of the greatest horn players of all time. LeRoi Holloway Moore was a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, and his legacy will never be forgotten. It's hard to believe it's been four years since he gave up his ghost. The contributions that LeRoi offered to DMB are innumerable, but one thing that Dave said of LeRoi has always stuck out in my mind. That is that LeRoi believed that music must be honest. If nothing else, the musicians must always strive to tell the truth through the chords, lyrics, and rhythmic beats that make up their collective voice.

Being a writer, this makes sense to me. Sometimes, though, it is extremely challenging to speak your truth for fear of consequences. And yet, there are times when the soul will not rest until her story has been told. This was the case for me.

I remembered that I am a writer several years ago when I wrote my first book, "Serendipity and the Search for True Self." Honestly, that book was a pleasure to write. It was all about the ways in which serendipity, (happy accidents), shows up in everyday life. Serendipity is at work when we find one thing, while looking for something else entirely, and I believe that it is the Universe's way of giving us a little nudge in a better direction. At any rate, because of the subject matter of that work, it was fun and light and airy, at least from my perspective.

But like pregnancies, every book is different. This second book, "The Write to Heal: How Writing Heals," turned out, unbeknownst to me, to be extremely personal. This work is an experiential view into the way in which writing heals the writer by taking him or her into a more spiritual dimension. And most of all, it's about the healing power of telling the truth. I hope it's not too presumptuous to think that LeRoi would be proud.

So, if you would like to win a free copy of my latest book, and read about the dark little things that my soul apparently needed to share in order to heal, then here is what you will need to do.

Enter to win by writing in one statement about yourself that not many people already know.

My goal is for you to experience what it feels like to write something personal, that makes you feel vulnerable, because I truly believe that making it past that fear creates healing and unbelievable freedom. We will not share your truths with anyone, so don't worry that your statement will be posted for all eyes to see. This is between you and your friends at DBTP.

It is a Universal truth that any time any person takes a step toward evolution, we all benefit. So, go ahead. Be brave! Let go of something that you no longer need. Your soul with thank you for it.
